When it comes to sushi in Taichung, Taiwan, locals are surely familiar with “Maguro Sushi.”
Located near Fengle Park and SHOWTIME Wenxin in Taichung, “Maguro Sushi” shares a vast space with other dining brands under the Maguro Group.
The Japanese-style architecture is impressive, and there’s a parking lot right next to the restaurant.

More than just a sushi restaurant, “Maguro Sushi” is a new-concept Japanese dining establishment that integrates high-end kaiseki, sushi kappo, and traditional izakaya cuisine.

Recommended Japanese Restaurant in Taichung
“Maguro Sushi” was the first restaurant in Taiwan to introduce the concept of conveyor belt sushi. With 25 years of operation, it’s a place where many have grown up enjoying authentic Japanese cuisine in Taichung.
Recently, the restaurant underwent a renovation, making the dining environment even more elegant.

At the entrance, you’ll see red benches paired with traditional Japanese red umbrellas, adding a classic touch. The small pebbles and square lanterns on the ground enhance the feel of a Japanese garden.

Inside, the restaurant features a high ceiling, bright lighting, and light wood textures, creating a spacious and comfortable atmosphere.

The counter seating at the entrance allows diners to watch the chefs’ precise knife skills—perfect for solo dining.

For groups, there are semi-private rooms that accommodate 4-6 people.

There’s also a cozy Japanese-style hearth where guests can sit and relax.

Once seated, guests can start by making a cup of Japanese Genmaicha from Kagoshima, and placing orders via a table-side tablet.

At “Maguro Sushi”, all dishes are made fresh upon ordering—unlike conveyor belt sushi where plates may sit out for a while, making freshness and hygiene uncertain.

They use a smart Japanese automated delivery system, ensuring that most dishes arrive directly at your table via a conveyor, making service both fast and hygienic!
Recommended Japanese Cuisine in Taichung
“Maguro Sushi” carefully selects fresh seafood from premium sources and delivers it directly to the restaurant. The menu features a variety of options, including nigiri sushi, gunkan-maki, sashimi, hand rolls, salads, fried dishes, grilled dishes, hot pots, and soups.
⏹︎ Assorted Fish Belly Sashimi – NT$458
A must-try in Japanese cuisine, this sashimi platter includes red snapper belly, salmon belly, and greater amberjack belly, all cut thick for the perfect bite.

Salmon belly: Delicate and soft, with rich, buttery fat that melts in your mouth.
Red snapper belly: Slightly chewy with a firm texture and a hint of nutty aroma.
Greater amberjack belly: Fresh and mildly sweet, with a balanced amount of fat.
⏹︎ Chef’s Special Nigiri Platter – NT$548
A perfect choice for those who can’t decide what to order! This platter features seven popular sushi selections, including anago (saltwater eel), fresh scallop, botan shrimp, salmon roe, sea urchin, white fish, and salmon.
Botan shrimp is softer and juicier than regular sweet shrimp, with a slightly sticky, silky texture.

Sea urchin is golden, plump, and tempting. It has a creamy texture with a rich oceanic umami and a hint of sweetness—one of my personal favorites!
The Anago is extremely tender and delicate, even lighter in texture than regular eel—highly recommended!
⏹︎ Salad with Vegetables – NT$158
This salad comes with a variety of fresh ingredients: lettuce, cucumber, sprouts, cherry tomatoes, baby corn, and two peeled, bouncy white shrimp.

Drizzled with a sweet and tangy Japanese dressing, it’s refreshing and packed with layers of flavor—perfect as an appetizer.
⏹︎ Deep-fried Tofu – NT$98
A must-try personal favorite! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Dipped in sweet-savory Japanese soy sauce, it’s absolutely delicious.

Made with egg tofu, the crispy outer coating has a hint of bonito fragrance, making it so attractive.
⏹︎ Clams and Garlic Soup – NT$148
After enjoying sashimi, a bowl of hot soup helps cleanse the palate and provides a comforting warmth.

Made with whole garlic cloves, the soup has a light garlic aroma that pairs beautifully with the natural sweetness of the clams – refreshing and flavorful!
⏹︎ Almond Junket – NT$70
A classic and refreshing dessert.

The soft, jelly-like almond junket has a mild almond fragrance that isn’t overpowering! The addition of sweet and tangy fruits enhances the texture and taste.

All dishes are freshly prepared upon ordering, with an e-ordering system and a smart Japanese automated food delivery system, ensuring minimal contact and top-tier hygiene.
The ingredients are fresh, and the sashimi is incredibly sweet and flavorful. The newly renovated space is spacious and comfortable, making it an excellent choice for gatherings and dates.
